Prior to her role as AIM President and CEO, Thomson served for four years as the association’s Executive Vice President of Government Affairs. She led AIM’s public-policy work on behalf of 3,400 member companies with policymakers both on Beacon Hill and Capitol Hill, assuming a leadership role on critical employer issues such as the cost of health care and energy; employment law; budget, taxes, finance; diversity and workforce development.

Her responsibilities for the telecommunications company included legislative and regulatory affairs in both Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Thomson came to AT&T after six years in the Massachusetts Attorney General’s office, where she served as Chief of the Business, Technology and Economic Development Division, the principal liaison for the business community in that office.

Prior to that, Thomson worked in the Massachusetts Legislature for four years, as Legal Counsel to the Massachusetts Legislature’s Committee on Telecommunications, Utilities and Energy. Her time in the Legislature included work on a variety of energy issues including expansion of the Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS), expansion of energy efficiency programs and she helped draft the 2007 Green Communities Act. Her political experience includes work on multiple political campaigns including managing the successful campaign of Martha Coakley for Attorney General in 2010.

Thomson was named one of the Boston Business Journal’s 2024 Power 50, which represents those in the Boston area who are influencing their local communities for good. In 2025, she was

the organization as a trailblazing woman who has “paved the way for others” for being a prominent advocate for the role of women in the workplace and for an inclusive vision of economic growth. She also serves as a member of the Advisory Council of the Women’s
Foundation of Boston.
